Wife of Abia State governor, Mrs Pricillia Otti, has visited Amaudo Mental Health Facility, Itumbauzo, and Methodist Leprosy Centre, Uzuakoli, donating an undisclosed amount of money, foodstuffs and other items to them.
Represented by the commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Maureen Aghukwa, she reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of vulnerable people in the state.
She said the administration is guided by empathy, inclusion, and respect for the dignity of human persons as governance must reach beyond urban centres and political offices to embrace those in such places.
According to her, the money, distribution of food items, and the essential supplies was part of the government’s broader effort to ensure that vulnerable populations feel supported and valued.
‎She also drew attention to the ongoing construction of the access road leading to the facility, describing it as a long-overdue intervention that reflects the administration’s responsiveness to genuine needs.
‎In his responses, the director of the facility, the Very Rev Ken Nwaubani, commended the first lady for the humanitarian gesture, adding that the inmates would remain every grateful to her.
He lauded the governor, Alex Otti for the ongoing road project to the facility, which he said had eased their hardship and restored a sense of belonging to the caregivers, and the residents of the community.
‎Similarly, his counterpart at the centre, the Very Rev Nnaemeka Ajike expressed gratitude to the governor and his wife for their concern for the less privileged and the vulnerable in the state.
‎He also commended the Otti administration for demonstrating that leadership can be compassionate and responsive, especially to those living on the margins of society or forgotten.
