Abia Govt Pays N500m Health Insurance Subsidy For Civil Servants

Abia State government has approved the payment of N500m health insurance subsidy for civil servants in the state.

The Information commissioner, Okey Kanu said this in Umuahia, the capital while briefing the press on this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

“They’re supposed to contribute 5 percent from their basic salary every monthly, but Otti has agreed to pay 2.5 percent to encourage them to enrol in the scheme.

“By this development, all the state civil servants are supposed to enroll in the scheme, the commissioner further explained.

Contributing, his Health ministry counterpart, Ogbonnaya Uche said after commencing the contribution, the civil servants would start accessing the services in 3-months time.

“They will be entitled to four dependants in addition to their spouses,” he noted, adding that modalities are being worked out to accommodate persons in the informal sector.
