Abia Govt Plans STEM Week For Students

Abia State government has concluded plans to organise a five-day STEM Week programme targeted at secondary school students across the state.

The Information commissioner, Okey Kanu said this while briefing the media on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia, the state capital.

Kanu further said the programme is part of Governor Alex Otti-led government’s efforts to promote science and technology education among young people.

“The initiative will showcase educational technology solutions, launch a dedicated STEM platform, and engage students through ICT club activities,” he said.

He informed that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations is setting up a committee to implement a programme tagged ECoN, “Energised Commercialisation Now”,

“Energised Commercialisation Now” is a federal government programme that promotes technology innovation and research  in all the  states of the country.

Contributing, his Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, counterpart David Kalu, assured of the commitment of the ministry to the success of the programme.

Kalu said: “The committee will coordinate the participation of innovators, startups, researchers, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders within the state.
