Abia To Launch Measles, Rubella Vaccinations

‎Executive secretary, Abia State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Kalu Ulu-Kalu, has announced that the state would launch measles and rubella vaccinations next year.

‎Ulu-Kalu stated this at a technical working group stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, the state, and challenged the health workers to intensify efforts in educating the public on the need for the exercise.

‎He said the government is committed to the healthcare needs of the people and harped on the need for stakeholders to join hands with it in tackling preventable diseases by encouraging immunisations.

‎In  their presentations, the state immunisation officer, Chinwe Eke, John Snow Incorporated Consultant, Chidinma Amuzie, and UNICEF representative, Hygenus Egbelu assured of their commitment to the well-being of the people.

‎They explained that they were able to reach out to over 31,000 women during the 2025 August Meeting Conference in different local government areas on the need to immunize their children.

‎They said they harped on the need for the ongoing Human Papilloma Virus (HPV ) vaccination for girls of nine years old as well as the upcoming measles and rubella virus vaccination.

‎According to them, they also encouraged girls who had already been vaccinated to come to school with their HPV vaccination cards from 29th of this month.

‎Contributing, the representative of WHO Caroline Iwuoha, and the state mobilisation officer Chukwudi Ukpabi said they were carrying out surveillance on M-pox and others.
