The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has extended her heartfelt congratulations to Councilor Abigail Marshall Katung and entrepreneur Tope Awotona for their remarkable achievements in the United Kingdom and the United States, respectively.

Katung, a British-Nigerian, has made history by becoming the newly appointed Lord Mayor of Leeds, serving for the term of 2024-2025.

The NIDCOM boss praised Katung’s outstanding track record, stressing her positive impact on humanity. Dabiri-Erewa expressed confidence in Katung’s leadership and called on Nigerians in Leeds to provide the necessary support for national development.

Katung, the first elected African Councilor in Leeds, currently chairs the Scrutiny Board for Infrastructure, Investment, and Inclusive Growth.

She has previously held key positions, including lead member for Race/BAME and Faith and Belief. Additionally, Katung co-chairs the David Oluwale Memorial Association (DOMA) and plays a strategic leadership role for the Leeds African Communities Trust.

On her part, Awotona, a 42-year-old Nigerian-born entrepreneur and founder/CEO of Calendly, has been officially recognized as the richest Nigerian immigrant in the United States. Forbes reports that Awotona, who relocated to the US during his teenage years, boasts a net worth of $1.2 billion, with his company valued at over $3 billion.
