Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening campus security.

he spoke during a courtesy visit by the commanding officer of the 21 Battalion Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Godiya Solomon.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the institution and the military to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students, staff and residents of the Anyigba community.

During the engagement, Usman commended the Nigerian Army for its proactive efforts to maintain peace and security in the town and around the university campus.

He said security remains a top priority of the university management and disclosed that the institution had initiated a visibility study to identify “flashpoints” where crimes and other security breaches had previously been reported.

The vice-chancellor emphasised that a stronger collaboration between the university authorities and the army would help tackle cultism, cult-related activities and other social vices within the campus community.

As part of measures to strengthen security, Prof. Usman reiterated the university’s ban on “sign-out celebrations” within the campus, while allowing Final Year Brethren (FYB) Week activities to continue under strict institutional regulations.

“No compromise will be made on security matters. We are determined to provide a secure atmosphere for learning and research, and to protect the welfare of our staff and students,” he said.

In his response, Lt. Col. Monday assured the Vice-Chancellor that the battalion remains fully committed to safeguarding the university community.

“We are doing our best to ensure that the university environment remains safe for everyone. With coordinated efforts and regular engagement with the university management, incidents of crime and cult-related activities can be effectively curtailed,” he said.
