Ahead of the 2026 area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) welcomed over 5,000 defectors in Pyakasa yesterday.
The event saw a large turnout of party loyalists in the FCT to welcome the decampees to their fold.
The Abuja Municipal Area Council chairman, Mr Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, who was billed to receive the defectors was unavoidably absent, as he was said to have been called by the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, for a crucial meeting.
After the event, the senior special assistant on Media to the AMAC chairman, Kingsley Madaki, said the event was a success, noting that the defection was a testament to the people’s acceptance of the great work of the chairman.
Madaki described his boss as “Mr Project”, stressing that only enemies of progress will not want to identify with him, as many people are falling in love with his people-oriented leadership style.
“It is only the enemies of progress that will not want to identify with what the chairman is doing. His programmes are people-oriented and developmentally driven. Many people have fallen in love with his leadership style and his pro-people programmes.
“He loves his people, and they love him. You can see that today we have welcomed over 5,000 decampees to the APC family. This is a testament to the great work the chairman is doing. This will not just boost his victory at the polls next year, but will benefit the party in the near future,” Madaki said.
Meanwhile, the FCT APC women leader, Hajiya Salamatu Bello Jibrin, said they were happy that the party was alive and bouncing.
“Our vote will count and we stand with Maikalangu to see that he completes his eight years in office,” Jibrin said.
