Abuja-based fitness club, Tom G has donated items to the City Of Refuge Orphanage as part of its commitment to giving back to the less privileged in communities within the Federal Capital Territory.
The outreach over the weekend being the third edition witnessed donation of food items, drinks, football, water, soap to the orphanage.
Speaking at the event, Vice President of the Club, Mustapha Garba said in any society there is a need to recognise those in orphanages by standing in as their parents and supporting them. “As members of society, we have to take up the responsibility of providing succor to those in need such as these ones here who have no parents.”
Garba urged the children to be obedient and respectful to people in the society while also taking their studies in school seriously. He mentioned that the team had also visited the Abuja Children’s Home in Karu as part of its outreach program to support and encourage the children.
While emphasising on the importance of exercise, he said everyone needs to exercise to keep fit. “When you don’t exercise, your bones get stiff and you feel heaviness in your body, but with sports you feel flexible. So this is what we do and I encourage all of you to always exercise.”
Matron of the Orphanage, Mrs Victoria Edwin while receiving the team, expressed gratitude for the donations. “We are grateful, it is not easy to give at this time. We thank you for the show of love. May God bless all of you richly.”
Speaking on the challenges facing the orphanage, the Matron revealed that the children’s school fees have been a major issue. She also solicited for the provision of a washing machine to cater for the kids’ laundry as the current one has packed up.
