Two weeks ago, a heart-rendingĀ  viral video showing a 55-year-old woman, Mrs Agu Ndidiamaka, being brutally assaulted by a group of men in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area, dominated social media. The woman was beaten into a stupor after the men stormed her residence, alleging she had cooperated with police officers who had earlier visited the community.

What was her offence? Her attackers claimed she had assisted the police during an ongoing investigation in the area. Appalled by the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, immediately ordered a thorough investigation.

The Imo State Police Command, yesterday,Ā  announced the arrest of five men linked to the assault. The suspects are expected to face criminal charges for the November 3 2025, attack on Mrs Ndidiamaka.

Police spokesperson for the state, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrests on Monday. Those arrested include Onyekachi Njoku, 40, Chiazor Osuji, 45, Chukwuma Iwuala, 46, Eugene Njoku and Njoku Emmanuel, 35, all from Uboegbelu in Emekuku, Owerri North LGA.

CP Danjuma had, on November 3 2025, ordered a full-scale investigationĀ  after the video surfaced online. According to Okoye, following the Commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit swiftly moved into action and arrested five of the men involved.

He explained that the suspects have all given confessional statements admitting their roles in the violent attack. The sixth suspect, identified as Onyedikachi Njoku, remains at large as law enforcement officials intensify efforts to apprehend him.

In Okoye’s words, the Imo State Police Command wishes to provide an update on the investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, into the viral video showing Mrs Agu Ndidiamaka being assaulted in Emekuku, Owerri North LGA.

The Police Commissioner has strongly condemned the attack, stressing that intimidation or harassment of citizens who lawfully cooperate with law enforcement will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

According to Okoye, the suspects will soon be arraigned in court on appropriate criminal charges.
