A man has been arrested in Abuja over the alleged killing of his mother following a dispute involving a ₦40 million inheritance, according to reports circulating online.

The incident, which has sparked widespread reactions on social media, was initially reported on the Hausa-language platform Rariya, although authorities are yet to officially confirm the details.

According to the reports, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother, identified as Nana, after she refused to release funds he requested from a family inheritance said to be worth ₦40 million.

The money was reportedly part of assets left behind by the family’s late patriarch, which the suspect allegedly intended to use for travel abroad.

His mother was said to have declined the request over concerns about how the funds would be spent.

While details of the incident remain sketchy, sources claim it occurred earlier in the week.

The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by security operatives, although there are conflicting accounts regarding the agency responsible for the arrest, with some reports attributing it to the Department of State Services (DSS). There has been no official confirmation from the agency as of press time.

Additional unverified reports suggest the suspect may have remained in the residence for several days after the incident without notifying authorities.

These claims also indicate he was apprehended upon returning home, though these details have not been independently confirmed.

The deceased was reportedly buried in Abuja following Islamic funeral rites at the National Mosque.

The incident has triggered an outpouring of reactions across social media, with many expressing shock over the circumstances surrounding the case and calling for a thorough investigation.

As of press time, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement confirming the full details of the incident, leaving several aspects unclear as investigations are expected to continue.
