Adamawa Councillors Withdraw Impeachment Notice Served On LG Chair

The 10 councillors of Numan Local Government Area (LGA) in Adamawa State have withdrawn the impeachment notice recently served on the LG chairman, Mr Christopher Sofore. The leader, Mr. Nazashi Latinos, announced this during a news briefing in Yola on Saturday.

The councillors had initially served the impeachment notice on Jan. 8, citing allegations of corruption, maladministration, and accusations that Sofore was “running the council alone as if the councillors do not exist.” Other offences included the alleged misappropriation of local government funds.

“The decision to withdraw the impeachment notice is sequel to our understanding of remote and immediate causes of the crisis, which we have traced to the communication gap between the executive and legislative arms of the council,” said Latinos.

“While we appreciate the intervention of prominent sons and daughters of the area, we have resolved to work with the executive arm in the interest of peace in Numan Local Government and the state at large.”

He called for calm from both sides, stating that the crisis had been amicably addressed.

Latinos appreciated all stakeholders and those who helped in resolving the challenges, stressing the council’s commitment to truthful representation for the overall growth and development of Numan and Adamawa.
