Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the establishment of Faculties of Medicine and Engineering at Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, and improving infrastructure across the institution.

The Governor made this known while receiving the university’s management team during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Yola.

He assured the delegation that the government will provide all necessary support to actualise the expansion drive.

Governor Fintiri also revealed plans to install a five-megawatt solar-powered electricity system for the university, with backing from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), aimed at addressing the institution’s growing energy needs.

He challenged the university management to be proactive and innovative in addressing the institution’s internal challenges.

He further assured them of the state government’s continued commitment to research funding and the welfare of staff.

Reflecting on his administration’s ongoing contributions to the university, Governor Fintiri noted the successful collaborations with partners such as TETFund. He added that the state’s efforts, in partnership with development agencies, will soon resolve the water supply issues affecting the university.

Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of ADSU, Professor Augustine Clement, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the trust placed in him to lead the institution.

He highlighted that several policy reforms have been implemented since his appointment to enhance learning, improve staff welfare, and promote student development.

Clement also revealed that the university, in collaboration with its governing council, is working toward the introduction of specialised courses, including Medicine and Engineering.

He commended Governor Fintiri for his financial support of the university and promised that the funds would be judiciously utilised to advance the institution.

The Vice Chancellor also mentioned ongoing challenges facing the university, including high energy costs, water scarcity, inadequate firefighting equipment—citing a recent fire incident—limited accommodation, and poor road infrastructure on the new campus.
