ADC Attacks Yari Over Claim APC Will Rule Beyond 2031

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has tackled the director-general of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign council, Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, over his declaration that Tinubu will win re-election in 2027 and that the ruling APC will retain power beyond 2031.

The ADC national chairman, Senator David Mark, described the declaration as wishful thinking, saying it was at variance with the political realities in Nigeria.

Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, had on Sunday expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure re-election in 2027 and that the APC would remain in power beyond the president’s second term.

Yari made the declaration at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, a day after he was unveiled as the director-general of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

The campaign organisation is chaired by President Tinubu himself.

Besides Yari, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Nentawe Yilwatda, APC national chairman, were listed as vice chairmen of the campaign. Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, is the campaign’s secretary.

However, reacting to Yari’s declaration, Mark said Yari and his party, the APC, could not fathom a win because they had no message to present to Nigerian voters.

Speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP through his media aide, Kola Ologbondiyan, the ADC national chairman said, “Senator Yari’s assertion is wishful thinking which is completely at variance with the reality in our country.

“Foremost, his party, the APC, and its president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have no message to present to Nigerian voters. How can he fathom a win in an election where they can’t communicate with the people?”

2027: ADC Spokesman Dismisses Yari’s Prediction Of Victory For Tinubu

On his part, the national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has dismissed Senator Abdul’aziz Yari’s confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Abdullahi said those assuring Tinubu of an easy victory in 2027 were not giving the president an accurate assessment of the country’s political situation.

He was reacting to Yari’s comments on the 2027 presidential election, saying the senator’s position appeared to be driven by the need to justify his recent appointment as director-general of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

“He’s one of those lying to President Tinubu. We understand he needs to justify his new appointment,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC spokesman also recalled the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) claim during its years in power that it would rule Nigeria for 80 years, noting that the party was eventually defeated at the polls.

“We also recall that the PDP once boasted that it would rule Nigeria for 80 years. But what happened?” he asked.

Abdullahi further questioned the political strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), contrasting it with the PDP of the past.

“At least, the PDP was a real political party, not this SPV,” he said.

He said the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 election should not be taken for granted, stressing that past claims of political dominance had not always translated into electoral victories.
