The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as a prisoner of conscience and called for his immediate release.

The demand formed part of the resolutions reached at the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed concern over El-Rufai’s situation and urged the relevant authorities to secure his immediate freedom.

“The NEC recognises Mallam Nasir El-Rufai as a prisoner of conscience and calls for his immediate release,” the communiqué stated.

The NEC also approved the results of recently conducted primaries for State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship and presidential elections, except in states and constituencies where appeals were still pending as of May 29, 2026, or where the processes had yet to be concluded.

According to the party, the approvals were part of efforts to strengthen its internal democratic processes ahead of future electoral contests.

The committee further approved a 12-month extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) from the expiration of its current mandate.

In addition, NEC ratified the constitution of caretaker committees at the zonal, state, local government and ward levels for a period of 12 months.

The resolutions were reached during the party’s 101st NEC meeting as the ADC continues preparations for upcoming political activities and the 2027 general elections.

The communiqué was signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
