A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and convener of the ADC National Alliance for Good Governance, Hon. Abdullahi Umar, has urged the federal government to adopt a more citizen-centred approach to governance, stressing that effective leadership must reflect the interests and welfare of all Nigerians.

Speaking with journalists in Kano yesterday, Umar described the recent declaration of Nigeria as a “CPC nation” by former United States President Donald Trump as a national embarrassment and a reflection of weak leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.

He said the development underscores what he called the ruling party’s inability to safeguard national interests and protect citizens irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political differences. “This is not just a diplomatic setback but a sign that the current administration lacks both the capacity and political will to address Nigeria’s internal and external challenges,” Umar stated.

The ADC chieftain said his party’s governance philosophy is anchored on transparency, justice, inclusivity, and equitable development across all regions. “Under ADC’s leadership, national unity would be restored by addressing security lapses, improving economic policy, and promoting social cohesion to rebuild confidence at home and abroad,” he added.

Umar maintained that the ADC remains committed to ensuring protection, equal opportunity, and dignity for every Nigerian. He urged citizens to reject what he described as APC’s failed governance model and support ADC’s vision for genuine reform and sustainable progress.

“The time to restore Nigeria’s dignity and stability is now, and the ADC stands ready to lead this transformation,” he said.
