The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condoled with communities in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas of Katsina State, following recent deadly attacks.
The party however criticised the Federal Government over what it described as poor handling of insecurity across the country.
Addressing journalists, the former Minister of State for Education, Lawal Tukur Batagarawa, described the attacks on Matazu, Musawa, Tangani and Sayaya communities as tragic, noting that lives, including those of security personnel and residents, were lost during the incidents.
Batagarawa, who said he was speaking on behalf of the national headquarters and the Katsina State chapter, said the development reflects a “sad everyday reality” not only in Katsina but also in other states grappling with insecurity, including Zamfara State, Sokoto State, Kebbi State, Niger State and Plateau State.
The party called on the Federal Government, in collaboration with state governments, to prioritise the protection of lives and property, stressing that security remains the primary responsibility of any government.
“Without security, the entire society risks sliding into anarchy or collapse,” Batagarawa said, adding that the ADC is committed to addressing insecurity if given the mandate in future elections.
The party also used the occasion to sympathise with families of victims and affected communities, praying for strength and comfort for those who lost loved ones.
On the political front, the ADC criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its recent decision to remove the party’s leadership from its official portal, describing the move as a misinterpretation of a court ruling.
According to the party, INEC’s action followed a judgment of the Court of Appeal which directed parties to maintain the status quo in a leadership dispute.
However, the ADC argued that the electoral body’s interpretation amounted to “mischief” and created unnecessary confusion.
The party said its national leadership, in consultation with its legal team, has resolved to challenge INEC’s decision in court, expressing confidence that the interpretation would be overturned.
Despite the development, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to continue all party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It announced that congresses at polling unit, ward, local government and state levels would proceed as planned, culminating in a national convention scheduled for April 14.
The Katsina State chapter of the party also pledged alignment with the national leadership’s directive, confirming that it would hold a meeting on Tuesday to finalise preparations for the congresses.
