The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a strategic group known as the “One ADC Movement” to mobilise Nigerians at all levels to sack the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the group, Lauretta Onochie, said the movement was launched to unite and bring together all members of the party across the country.
The former presidential aide urged supporters of various chieftains of the party to strengthen their unity, noting that division would not bring the desired results.
“The movement is to help strengthen our unity at all levels, so I urge all our supporters to work together for meaningful results.
“Across Nigeria today, our people are watching the political space with hope, expectation, and sometimes concern. Nigerians are asking an important question: Can political parties rise above internal divisions and truly serve the people?
“Our answer today is yes. The One ADC Movement is built on a simple but powerful principle , that unity is the greatest strength of any political party.
“A political party is not merely an election platform. It is a community. It is a family. It is a gathering of people who believe that together they can build something stronger than themselves.
“But like every family, there will be debates. There will be contests. There will be disagreements. That is the nature of democracy. What matters is what happens after those moments.
“The movement is created to strengthen the bonds within the African Democratic Congress, to encourage reconciliation where there are disagreements, and to remind every member that our collective future is greater than any individual ambition,” she said.
In his remarks, a former National Chairman of ADC, Ralph Nwosu, said rather than continue complaining, the opposition coalition, through initiatives such as the movement, is providing Nigerians with an alternative platform to dislodge the APC in 2027.
“We don’t want to continue complaining. We have decided to encourage Nigerian citizens to own the ADC so that there will be no more complaining. Let everybody take action, and that action is this: instead of allowing Nigeria to die, Nigeria must arise and shine in 2027.
“Now that the citizens of Nigeria have taken over the ADC, it is not about who is the chairman or secretary. The leadership of the ADC has been very deliberate.
“They do not want to stand in anybody’s way. They want Nigerian citizens to take ownership of the party. David Mark, being a disciplined military tactician, decided not to stand in people’s way but to allow the people to own the party.
“Nigeria is now in the ICU — the Intensive Care Unit. It is not just sick; that sickness has taken it to the Intensive Care Unit. What we are doing through citizen ownership of the party is to repair it so that Nigeria will not die. And in 2027, Nigeria must arise and shine,” he added.
The Director of Mobilisation, Umar Shuiabu, said that following the unveiling, the movement would become visible nationwide and work towards defeating what he described as the “corrupt regime” in Nigeria in 2027.
