Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has disclosed his administration’s plan to generate electricity to strengthen the economic and social well-being of the people of the state.
Adeleke made the disclosure in Ilesa at the re-launch of the execution of Obokun 33 KVA feeder relocated from Osunjela, Atakumosa West local government area to Omi Aladiye in Ilesa West local government area of the state. He added that Osun has a draft electricity bill and policy which would expand power generation and distribution in the state.
He noted that the plan will transform the state energy and electricity market through appropriate policy and legislation, adding that the policy and the bill, when finally passed into law, will change the face of Osun electricity space.
His said, “Being so blessed with many rivers and solar assets, we will generate our electricity. We will issue licenses for those capable of generating electricity. We will regulate our power distributor, the Ibadan Disco.
“We will manage the relationship between power generators and purchasers. The new plan will create a regulatory agency for the state power sector.”
He disclosed that he has directed the Ministry of Energy to develop an implementation plan with timelines and deliverables adding that stakeholders must be fully involved in the process for sustainable outcome.
According to him, the people of Omi Aladiye and Akad settlements along Ilesa – Osogbo Road, Igbajo in Boluwaduro local government as well as Kajola and Osunjela in Atakumosa West local government and the entire communities in Obokun local government and all the communities therein will benefit from the new 33KV feeder line.
