The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has found itself under scrutiny as serious allegations of financial misconduct have surfaced against one of its senior bishops.

In a decisive move, the church has established an independent investigation panel to probe these claims, which have gained traction across social media and mainstream news outlets.

The announcement was made yesterday through a press statement from the general secretary’s office, Venerable Gershinen Paul Dajur.

“As a church committed to the teachings of Christ, and to integrity and accountability, we take these matters with the utmost seriousness,” the statement read.

While the specific allegations have not been disclosed, church officials said that swift action is necessary to uphold the organisation’s integrity.

According to the statement, a retired judge will lead the panel to ensure an unbiased investigation, although the judge’s name has yet to be revealed.

“The church has immediately constituted an independent, high-level investigation panel to examine the allegations and establish the truth, whilst ensuring complete transparency and fairness throughout the process,” the statement confirmed.

The church stated that in light of the sensitive nature of the accusations, its leadership has made an earnest request to its millions of members and the broader Christian community.

“We respectfully urge our members, other stakeholders in the Body of Christ, and the general public to refrain from speculation while this process is ongoing,” the statement emphasised.

The church also reassured its followers that it would act in accordance with biblical principles and established governance structures.

“Our faith reminds us that the Church is greater than any individual, and we remain steadfast in our mission to serve God and humanity with sincerity. We earnestly ask for your prayers for wisdom, unity, and healing during this period,” the statement concluded.
