Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to implementing measures that will guarantee food security for residents of Osun State and beyond.

The governor expressed this commitment while receiving the Presidential Livestock Reforms Initiative Committee in his office in Osogbo. He said Osun State is endowed with arable lands and forests, which, if fully harnessed, will ensure food security and create more job opportunities for the people.
Adeleke, who declared his administration’s support for the federal government livestock reform initiative, described it as a well-intentioned initiative that couldn’t have come at a better time than now.

He disclosed his plan to put in place a strong committee of egg heads in Agriculture to design a good template for Osun on the best way to reform the livestock sector. This ended Governor Adeleke’s remarks during the committee’s visit to his office.

Earlier, the committee co-chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said his team was in Osun State to sell the idea of the committee and its overall objectives, which, if bought into, will go a long way in making Osun benefit maximally.

He particularly appealed to Governor Adeleke to set up a Ministry of Livestock or any Agency that would realise the federal government’s dream of making livestock available in large quantities throughout Nigeria.

Jega urged Governor Adeleke to support his livestock policy by enabling legislation through the State House of Assembly. He encouraged him to engage the services of critical stakeholders in livestock and create awareness of the importance of reforming the sector for the good and happiness of the people.
