AFCON 2025: Uganda’s Lorenzen Issues Warning to Group C Rivals

Uganda striker Melvyn Lorenzen has declared that his team will be a formidable obstacle for all opponents in Group C of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), sending a direct warning to powerhouses like Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania. The Cranes are making their long-awaited return to the tournament for the first time since 2019.

Speaking via his official X handle, Lorenzen emphasised Uganda’s history of resilience against top-tier African football nations.

“Even against the big nations, it’s always a good result. We’ve never gone under, they’ve always shown themselves in a good light,” he stated.

“So, I think any team that comes won’t be comfortable playing us. It’s time to prove that again.”

The Cranes will look to channel the spirit of their historic 1978 campaign, where they achieved their best-ever finish as runners-up, losing the final to Ghana.

Their return to AFCON after a six-year absence adds an element of determined ambition to a group already featuring the perennial strength of Nigeria and Tunisia.
