Team Nigeria delivered another impressive performance on Day 4 of the CAA African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, clinching gold in the women’s 4x100m relay and silver in the men’s equivalent. The nation’s athletes continue to demonstrate a strong showing at the continental competition.

Nigeria’s women’s quartet, comprising Rosemary Nwankwo, Obi Jennifer Chukwuka, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Miracle Ezechukwu, stormed to gold in the 4x100m relay with a winning time of 42.94 seconds, successfully defending their African title. The Nigerian team fended off a strong challenge from Liberia, who secured silver, whilst hosts Ghana claimed bronze.

This victory marks Team Nigeria’s fourth consecutive African title in the women’s 4x100m relay, extending an incredible winning streak that commenced in Asaba 2018 and continued through Mauritius 2022, Douala 2024, and now Accra 2026.

The triumph was made even more remarkable by the youthful composition of the team. Miracle Ezechukwu only sat her JAMB examination last month before travelling to Accra for the championships, while Rosemary Nwankwo is still a secondary school student in SSS2, underscoring the bright future of Nigerian athletics.

In the men’s 4x100m relay final, Nigeria secured a hard-fought silver medal after the quartet of Favour Ashe, James Taiwo Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin, and Chidera Ezeakor clocked 38.70 seconds to finish second.
