African Music Is Growing, Not Failing – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats singer, Tiwa Savage, says African music is not losing its value. Instead, she believes the industry is only going through a fixing stage that will make it stronger.

Tiwa said this during her speech at the Oxford Africa Conference.

She explained that the sudden rush and noise around African music has slowed down. However, she noted that this slowdown is actually a good thing because it gives the industry time to build proper structures and systems for the future.

The singer compared the situation to other international music styles like Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop, which also went through similar stages before becoming stable.

“Some people think African music is going down, but we are actually in a healthy cycle,” Savage said. “Now that the noise from the quick growth has reduced, we need to focus on building the right structures to support the industry.”

She also said that there are many things to fix in the African music business right now, but warned people not to mistake these adjustments for a total failure.

“Many types of music have gone through this. Our industry is no different. We see that we have a lot to correct, but let us not confuse fixing things with failing,” she added.
