Barely one week after Yobe state government won the Leadership Excellence award in equitable Healthcare and Social Welfare from Dove Healthcare Foundation, the State again emerged as the 2025 National Champion for Primary Health Care Leadership in Nigeria.
A statement by Mamman Mohammed, the director general, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, stated that the award is a celebration of excellence, innovation and outstanding contributions within Nigera’s Healthcare sector.
The award also covers the personal commitment of Governor Buni in ensuring functional Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
According to the statement, Yobe State won the Best Performing State in the North-East, attracting $500,000 and emerged the overall Best Performing State in the country as National Champion in Primary Health Care also attracting $700,000, making a total of $1.2 million prize tag.
The challenge is managed by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), UNICEF, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) .
Mohammed said the award and others underscored the priority attention and functionality the Buni administration attached to primary healthcare delivery in the state.
