Kano State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a trailer conveying cement along the Zaria–Kano road, arresting the driver in the process.
The seizure was made on February 2, 2026 by operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command, following what the agency described as intelligence-led surveillance and careful monitoring of the suspicious consignment.
In a statement by the command’s spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Maigatari, the agency said the trailer was loaded with Dangote cement and had departed Obajana in Kogi State, heading to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was intercepted.
NDLEA disclosed that the suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation, while investigation has been intensified to uncover the drug trafficking network behind the shipment.
Reacting to the development, the commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN D.Y. Lawal, described the interception as a major breakthrough credited to “meticulous intelligence work” and the dedication of officers of the command.
“This seizure is the result of meticulous intelligence work and the dedication of our officers. The drugs were concealed within legitimate cargo and are believed to have been intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period. We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual wellbeing of our communities,” he said.
