Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has said the 7th Edition of the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) scheduled to hold in Abuja between November 5 and 7, 2024, will focus on key sectors that are pivotal to driving investment and fostering growth in Nigeria.

The chairman and CEO of NIDCOM, Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa made this known in a news conference ahead of the summit.  She noted that the areas of focus in this year’s summit include Finance, ICT, Fintech, Creative Industries, Sports and Entertainment, Agribusiness, Healthcare, Education, Real Estate and Infrastructure, as well as Manufacturing and Mining.

The NIDCOM boss, who reeled out the achievements of the previous editions of the summit, said this year’s summit with the theme, “New Vistas, New Aspirations, New Visions: The Diaspora and National Development,” highlights the continuous commitment to unlocking new opportunities for Nigeria’s development through Diaspora engagement.

She said “Given the current socio-economic challenges and the relentless effort of the current administration, the diaspora’s involvement is not just beneficial; it is essential, especially in boosting investment prospects and sustainable development in the country and that is why this Summit is apt.”

She added that since the summit was launched in 2018, it has consistently provided a vibrant and impactful platform for the Nigerian diaspora to play a pivotal role in the country’s economic development.

“Through this initiative, members of the diaspora have been empowered to channel their resources, expertise, and networks into fostering economic growth and creating opportunities for Nigerians back home. The NDIS serves as a bridge, connecting diaspora investors with local entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups across various sectors of the Nigerian economy.”

The former lawmaker noted that by focusing on investments in small businesses, the Summit has contributed to job creation, innovation, and the diversification of Nigeria’s economic base.

“Many of these businesses are in sectors such as agriculture, technology, healthcare, manufacturing, and renewable energy, all of which have significant potential to generate sustainable growth.

“This direct engagement by the diaspora has not only infused much-needed capital into the local economy but has also brought in new skills, knowledge, and global best practices that have strengthened the capacity of local enterprises to compete on a larger scale” she added.

The NDIS is an annual project of NIDCOM and the Nigerian Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI) to serve as a catalyst to unite all Nigerians in improving the country’s economy.

Also speaking virtually, coordinator of the Nigerian Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI) Dr. Badewa Adejugbe- Williams noted that the summit has over time proven its potential   and significance in garnering resources that drive economic growth in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu is expected   to grace the occasion with his presence among many other dignitaries including Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who will be Guest Speaker on the first day. Dangote’s presence is aimed at drawing from the wealth of his knowledge and practical experience in successfully conducting business in Nigeria.

Others include John Olajide, who will deliver the keynote address on the second day, contributing his own valuable experience and insights. Additionally, prominent personalities from the entertainment industry, such as Richard Mofe-Damijo, among many others, will also be present.
