Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday announced that President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of all four children of the late Head of the FCT Civil Service, Mrs Grace Adayilo.

The announcement was made at the National Christian Centre (Ecumenical) in Abuja, during the funeral service of Adayilo, who passed away on September 1, 2025.

The minister stated that the gesture was to provide for the family following the loss of their breadwinner.

In a heartfelt and somber tribute delivered at the church service, Wike eulogised the late civil servant, popularly known as ‘Mama Africa’, as an exceptionally dedicated, humble, and loyal official.

“We all know that we will die one day, that is guaranteed, but there are certain deaths when it occurs, it pains.

“It becomes more painful when there is no sign that somebody whom you are relating with, somebody you are working with, just comes to work and the next day you hear that the person is no longer there,” he said.

The minister recounted how he first met Adayilo after her appointment as a Permanent Secretary, a position he noted was created by President Tinubu to encourage career progression within the FCT administration.

He described seeking a recommendation for a new Head of Service who could match his demanding work ethic.

“I said, I want somebody that is very, very committed; somebody that is humble; somebody that would be loyal to the job. I don’t want excuses.

“I was told she is a woman, but yes, she is not a woman. And behold, very, very strong. Very, very humble. And very loyal. No excuses,” he said.

He praised her efficiency, noting that assignments given to her were often executed within minutes. “She did not joke about payment of salaries and other entitlements. She was a good mother,” he added.

Wike also revealed a lesser-known side of the late head of Service, describing her as a skilled politician and a great mobiliser who felt so much for her people.

Addressing the bereaved family directly, the minister conveyed the President’s condolences and the life-changing directive.

“Mr President has directed me to give the four children automatic employment. Because, Mr President understands, that now that there is no breadwinner for them to survive.

“I hear the daughter is doing her youth service in Port Harcourt. Don’t worry, the local Port Harcourt will follow you,” he said.

The announcement was met with a wave of applause from the congregation, offering a moment of solace to the family amidst their grief.

The minister concluded his tribute with a prayer for the repose of Mrs. Adayilo’s soul, stating, “May God accept her and her soul rest in peace.”
