A new artificial intelligence-powered travel platform launched in Abuja is seeking to eliminate physical queues associated with airline ticket bookings in Nigeria by allowing passengers to make reservations remotely.

The platform, unveiled by Safety Travels Ltd, uses a networked backend that connects with multiple airlines as well as global car-hire and hotel partners.

Chairman of the agency, Hon. Chidi Nwogu, described the development as a significant shift in how travellers access booking services in Nigeria, saying it could reduce the time passengers spend at airline offices.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja during the launch, Nwogu said the platform was designed to address longstanding challenges associated with conventional ticket booking.

“For decades, passengers have endured hours spent in physical queues at airline offices, often sacrificing an entire day just to book a simple flight,” Nwogu said.

“With this technology, that era is coming to an end.”

He said prospective passengers would be able to complete bookings from their homes or offices, reducing the need for physical visits to airline offices.

The General Manager of Safety Travels Ltd, Agufuroye Joseph, said the platform was expected to improve service delivery and provide customers with a more convenient booking experience.

The launch comes amid efforts to deepen digitalisation across Nigeria’s aviation and travel industries, as airlines expand regional connectivity and passenger traffic continues to recover from the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
