As part of efforts to build stronger networks for the development of Yorubaland, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1, on Wednesday, met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abass, in Abuja.

The monarch, accompanied by his wife, Olori Abiwumi Owoade, and prominent Oyo sons including Prince Akeem Adeyemi, member representing Oyo Federal Constituency, and Alhaji AbdulWasiu Adebisi, also visited the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Other traditional rulers at the meetings included the Ataoja of Osogbo, the Olu of Ilaro, the Oloro of Oro, and the Olusin of Ijora Isin. Also in attendance were federal lawmakers and the Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the South-West geopolitical zone, DIG Adebowale Williams.

During the meeting at the National Assembly, Speaker Abass briefed Oba Owoade on legislative efforts in support of the traditional institution.

“In 2025, the green chambers has supported monarchs and will continue to do so. A bill to give a defined role to monarchs is currently enjoying legislative attention, and we will ensure it gets speedy passage,” Abbas said, describing his engagement with the Alaafin as “warm, engaging, and deeply enriching.”

At the Force Headquarters in Abuja, IGP Egbetokun underscored the relevance of traditional institutions in maintaining security and fostering national stability.

“Traditional institutions play an important role in ensuring the safety and security of communities and the nation at large,” he said, assuring the monarchs of “robust collaboration between the Police Force and traditional institutions towards ensuring inclusivity at various grassroots levels to achieve sustainable peace and development.”

The visits were seen as part of renewed efforts to strengthen collaboration between political leaders, security agencies, and traditional rulers for the advancement of Yorubaland and the country as a whole.
