A high Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) headed over by Justice Akeem A. Fashola has adjourned the trial of the criminal case against as an Abuja- based medical practitioner, Dr John Abebe and his hospital, Joje Abebe Hospital Limited over alleged sale of his patient’s embryos and IVF fraud to June 18, 2026.

Abebe, who is also a pastor with Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel’International), Durumi, Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge of fraud, unlawful disclosure of his patient’s medical records and sale of their embryos, fraud and criminal conspiracy on March 11, 2026 by the federal government through the inspector -general of police (IGP).

According to the three-count charge, Abebe was accused of unlawfully releasing the confidential medical records of Mrs Mary Manga and her husband to the public without her consent — an offence said to contravene Section 29 of the National Health Act 2014.

When the case up for hearing yesterday, Abebe’s lawyer Marvin Omorogbe informed the court that there was a pending application before the court and urged the court to allow him move the application. However, the prosecution counsel Malik Taiwo told the court that he was not aware of the application and prayed that he be given time to enable him respond to the motion.

Omorogbe later changed his mind, telling the court that they were ready to proceed with the substantive matter.

Justice Fashola told the counsel that the court can only proceed with the trial if he withdraws the application and since he wasn’t ready to do that, it is only just that the prosecution counsel be allowed to file their written response to the motion and adjourned the case to June 18, 2026.
