Amate Clinches 2025 IBB Golf Club Captain’s Cup Trophy

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 IBB International Golf and Country Club Captain’s Cup tournament, A. Amate showcased exceptional golfing skills to clinch the championship trophy.

Competing against over 300 participants, Amate, a handicap 14 golfer, completed the 18-hole event with a gross score of 81 and a nett score of 67, triumphing on count-back to secure the prestigious trophy.

The one-week tournament, aptly titled ‘Tiger Bows Out,’ featured some of the finest golfers in the club, all vying for the coveted title. After receiving the trophy, Amate attributed his success to meticulous preparation and flawless execution, while also praising his fellow competitors for their commendable performances on the fairways.

In the Men’s Division One category, handicap 4 Mohammed Suleiman emerged as the Best Nett champion with a gross score of 73 and a nett score of 69. While, Prof. Bola Afolabi claimed victory in Men’s Division 2 with a gross score of 85 and a nett score of 66, Rokan Ojomo led the way in Men’s Division 3.

The ladies’ categories were equally competitive, with past lady captain and Board of Trustees member, Grace Ihonvbere, taking the Best Nett title in Ladies Division One, recording a gross score of 84 and a nett score of 70.

Pastor Anne Abimiku topped Ladies Division Two, while Joy Igwugwu excelled in Division Three. In the veterans’ categories, S. Okwuokei won the Men’s Veteran title, and former Inspector General of Police Sunday Ehindero claimed the Men’s Super Veteran crown. Past Lady Captain Aphia Yaduma was crowned champion of the Ladies Veteran category, with Nkechi Nwaogu leading the Ladies Super Veteran competition.

Outgoing Club Captain Ibrahim Babayo, affectionately known as “Tiger” among club members, reflected on a successful year of leadership.

He expressed pride in the club’s achievements, which included the complete restoration of the golf course, the replacement of all sprinklers, repair of essential maintenance machinery, the implementation of a new access control system, and the renovation of the clubhouse reception.

 

Babayo extended his gratitude to fellow executive members for their unwavering support and teamwork, particularly during challenging times.

 

Ambassador Ben Okoyen, Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2025 Captain’s Cup, expressed his appreciation to all those who contributed to the tournament’s success. He highlighted golf as a sport that fosters humility, builds friendships, and exemplifies the importance of integrity.
