Former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday, visited Mangalayatan University in Aligarh (Beswan), Uttar Pradesh, India.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to elevate educational standards and expand access to quality learning opportunities for Nigerians through international collaboration.

Kwankwaso, who led the delegation, emphasised that the purpose of the trip was to foster “meaningful collaborations in research, technology, and academic exchange between Nigerian institutions and their Indian counterparts.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, Kwankwaso said the partnership will “promote mutual growth and innovation in higher education,” highlighting the importance of global academic networks in today’s competitive knowledge economy.

Expressing his gratitude, Kwankwaso extended “heartfelt appreciation to the entire Mangalayatan University community, particularly the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Senate, and staff, for their exceptional warmth, hospitality, and gracious reception.”

The visit came amid recent tensions after two American lawmakers introduced a bill to the US Congress, seeking to impose sanctions on Kwankwaso, for alleged violations of religious freedom in Nigeria.

The bill identified Kwankwaso, a former federal lawmaker, two-time governor of Kano State, erstwhile defence minister, and former presidential candidate, as one of the individuals contributing to systemic religious “persecution of Christians that has persisted” in Nigeria.
