A team of anti-crime squad of the Anambra State Police Command has arrested 29-year-old Onyeaka Odogwu alleged to be a hardened political thug and cultist.
LEADERSHIP learnt that he was arrested following information leaked to the police on his criminal operations.
Identified as an alleged member of the Vikings Confraternity, after his arrest he had led the police team to the hideout of his members in Omor, Ayamelum local government area where the following weapons were allegedly recovered: two Pump Action Guns, two English-made Double-Barrel Guns, three live cartridges, a red cloth and regalia bearing cult insignia and three black caps as well as two red caps with inscriptions associated with Vikings Confraternity.
The public relations officer of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said while Odogwu was arrested on October 24, 2025, at about 11.30hrs, the recovery of the weapons was carried out in the early hours of yesterday.
“All recovered exhibits have been documented as evidence, while further investigations aimed at tracking and apprehending other gang members and associates mentioned by the suspect are currently ongoing” Ikenga stated.
Meanwhile, the state police command’s spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has warned all cultists, political thugs to leave the state ahead of this coming November 8 governorship election holding in the state, and, indeed, never to return.
The state police boss according the PPRO also urged parents, community leaders and youth groups to discourage young people from being recruited into cult-related activities, assuring the people of the state that security had been beefed up across the state to guarantee maximum security ahead of the governorship election, during the election, and, even after the polls.
