Anambra State Football Association chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi, says the state’s male and female teams are targeting an impressive outing at the maiden National Intermediate Games in Lagos.
Iloenyosi disclosed that both teams had been in camp for an extended period as part of preparations for the competition, with the players training under qualified coaches in what he described as a conducive environment.
“We have kept them in camp in the right environment with good coaches. We have plans to make a great impact at the Games,” Iloenyosi, a former international, said.
He added that a strong performance in Lagos would be a way of appreciating the support of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, whose administration, he said, had provided the necessary resources for the teams’ preparations.
Ahead of the Games, the Anambra FA, in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, unveiled new playing kits for the male and female teams.
Iloenyosi said the new jerseys were intended to give the teams a distinct identity while underscoring the state’s focus on professionalism and youth development.
“The unveiling represents more than just new jerseys; it reflects a renewed commitment to professionalism, identity, unity and the continued development of football across Anambra State,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Patrick Agha Mba, visited the teams and their management at their training camp in Enugwu-Ukwu on Saturday.
Agha Mba was accompanied by Iloenyosi during the visit, which was aimed at encouraging the players and coaches ahead of the Games and conveying the governor’s goodwill message to the contingent.
The commissioner commended the players for their discipline, dedication and commitment during their preparations and reaffirmed the state government’s support for football and youth sports development.
The National Intermediate Games, organised by the National Sports Commission, will bring together young athletes from across the country as part of efforts to strengthen the pathway from grassroots sport to elite competition.
