Anglican Primate Tells Political Leaders To Put Nigerians First

Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, has challenged the country’s leaders to embrace humility, selflessness and sacrificial service.

He said Nigeria’s numerous challenges can only be overcome by leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people above personal interests.

Archbishop Ndukuba made the call during a thanksgiving service and the presentation of his new book to commemorate his 65th birthday at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Abuja.

He said effective and godly leadership requires putting the needs of the people first rather than pursuing selfish ambitions, stressing that such an approach is essential for national development and social harmony.

Reflecting on his 65 years in life, the Anglican primate expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness and pledged to continue dedicating his life to impactful service to the church and the larger society.

In his sermon, the guest preacher, Most Reverend Gabriel Akinbiyi, urged church leaders to lead by example and avoid the pursuit of worldly possessions at the expense of their spiritual calling.

He challenged priests to emulate Jesus Christ by focusing on the spiritual growth and well-being of those under their care.

Archbishop Akinbiyi commended Ndukuba’s leadership, describing it as impactful and Christ-centred through his promotion of peace, unity and support for the less privileged.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation and review of Archbishop Ndukuba’s latest book, The Reign of God (Walking the Path), in which he reflects on God’s sovereign purpose for the Church and the responsibilities of Christian believers.

Reviewing the publication, former Minister of Power and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Chinedu Nebo, described the book as a timely and significant contribution to Christian leadership, discipleship and sound biblical teaching.

Also speaking, the immediate past Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, paid glowing tribute to Archbishop Ndukuba, describing him as a faithful servant of God whose leadership has strengthened the Anglican Communion and inspired countless people within and beyond the Church.

The thanksgiving service drew clerics, government officials, family members, friends and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate Archbishop Ndukuba’s life, ministry and contributions to the growth of the Anglican Communion in Nigeria.
