The Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has confirmed the killing of four of their members, insisting that 10 others were still missing following a deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday night.
JNI, in a press statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Secretary, Dr. Salim Musa Umar, said thorough investigations and reports from Muslim communities revealed that four of its members lost their lives in the incident, which occurred when unknown gunmen opened fire on residents.
“The bodies of some of the victims have been identified at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), while the 10 missing persons remain unaccounted for, with their families having no contact with them since Sunday and their phone numbers switched off,” the statement read.
JNI added that two persons are currently receiving treatment at JUTH.
The Muslim body said it was in touch with the families of the victims and extended condolences to the parents and relatives of those who lost their loved ones.
“We condole with the parents of all the victims who lost their loved ones and call on the public to remain calm. ”
The statement further said, “We appreciate the efforts of the state government and the security agencies for controlling the situation.”
The attack on Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba, a densely populated community in Jos North LGA, left 28 persons killed and others injured.
