The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOC Africa) has officially commended Nigeria for its remarkable performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
In a heartfelt message sent on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, ANOC Africa President Honourable Mustapha Berraf extended his congratulations to Engineer Habu Gumel, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. The message highlights the significant accomplishments of the Nigerian team, which competed vigorously from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
President Berraf praised the Nigerian athletes for their stellar performance, noting that their success is a direct result of meticulous preparation, a clear strategic vision, and the relentless dedication of athletes, coaches, and various stakeholders committed to elevating sports in Nigeria.
He stated, “These performances are the culmination of rigorous work and unwavering commitment from all those who strive daily to promote sport in your country.” This assertion underscores the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving such high levels of success.
Moreover, Berraf pointed out that Nigeria’s triumphs transcend national borders, resonating throughout Africa and highlighting the increasing influence of African nations in the global sporting arena. He emphasised that these achievements serve as a beacon of inspiration for young people across the continent, showcasing the values of determination, discipline, and excellence.
“The achievements of Nigerian athletes will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of sportsmen and women, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to outstanding success,” he added.
ANOC Africa’s President further reaffirmed the organisation’s unwavering support for Nigeria’s ongoing sporting initiatives, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that drives athletic excellence across Africa.
Nigeria’s impressive haul of 24 medals at the Games—including 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze—stands as a testament to the nation’s sporting prowess and determination, solidifying its position as a formidable force in international athletics.
