US Labour Secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, has stepped down from the administration of President Donald Trump, becoming the third female cabinet member to exit the government in recent weeks.

The White House confirmed her departure on Monday, stating that she was set to take up a role in the private sector. White House Communications Director, Steven Cheung, disclosed that her deputy, Keith Sonderling, will oversee the department pending further directives.

Chavez-DeRemer, who assumed office in March 2025, previously served as a US representative for Oregon. Her appointment had drawn attention at the time due to her relatively moderate stance on labour issues.

While her exit has been officially linked to a transition into the private sector, it follows a period of scrutiny and public reports raising concerns about administrative issues within the department. She has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Her resignation marks the latest in a series of high-profile exits involving female officials in the administration, including former Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, and former Attorney General, Pam Bondi.

The White House has not indicated any immediate replacement for the position.
