In a move that had been widely speculated in recent weeks, French striker Anthony Martial has officially parted ways with Liga MX side Rayados de Monterrey.

The club and the former Manchester United forward reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, allowing the 30-year-old to become a free agent with immediate effect.

The news was first broken by renowned football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who took to his X account to confirm the development.

Romano stated, “Anthony Martial and Rayados have agreed on contract termination on a mutual agreement. The French striker leaves Mexican side as a free agent.”

Martial’s time in Mexico proved to be a quiet and largely forgettable chapter in a once-promising career. Over his spell with Rayados, he managed just 20 appearances across all competitions, contributing a solitary goal and three assists—numbers far below the expectations that once accompanied his name.

The 30-year-old attacker was hailed in his youth as the heir to France’s golden generation of forwards. After bursting onto the scene as a teenage sensation at Monaco, he secured a high-profile move to Manchester United in 2015 for an initial fee of around €50 million, becoming the most expensive teenager in world football at the time.

His debut season showed flashes of brilliance, including a memorable goal against Liverpool, but consistency and fitness issues, along with fierce competition for places, saw his influence at Old Trafford steadily wane.

Following a disappointing final season with United—where he made only 19 appearances in all competitions—Martial was released by the Premier League giants in June 2024.

He then sought to revive his career in Mexico with Rayados, but the move failed to reignite his form.

Now, once again a free agent, the former French international faces an uncertain future as he looks to find a club willing to give him another chance.
