Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos and some party chieftains yesterday met to resolve the stalemate created by the rejection of 17 commissioner nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the Lagos State House of Assembly for screening.
The state assembly had recently rejected 17 of the 39 cabinet nominees forwarded to it by Sanwo-Olu for screening and confirmation.
Due to the action of the assembly, the governor has not been able to swear in members of the state executive council.
The rejection has generated controversy in the state, with many people attributing the assembly‘s action to the cold war between its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and Governor Sanwo-Olu.
A few days ago, Obasa, during the House‘s sitting said the lawmaker would not succumb to intimidation by anybody over its action in axing Sanwo-Olu‘s nominees.
But on Wednesday, the GAC members and top APC chieftains in Lagos met with Sanwo-Olu and Obasa at the State House, Marina, to resolve the matter.
Although details of the meeting were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, inside sources maintained that the meeting was convened to resolve the feud between the executive and the legislature arms of government in the state.
At the meeting were GAC members such as Cardinal Odunmbaku; Otunba Henry Ajomale; former Deputy Governor, Mrs Sarah Sosan; former Deputy Governor, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and Dr Abayomi Finnih.
Others include also the APC chairman in Lagos, Cornelius Ojelabi, and former Lagos APC chairman, Henry Ajomale, among others.
At the end of the closed-door meeting, the Speaker Obasa and Governor Sanwo-Olu took photographs with the GAC members and other APC chieftains, suggesting that the feud may have been resolved.
