Team Nigeria has arrived in Accra, the Ghanaian capital to compete in the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championship scheduled to take place from 3rd to 5th October.

The contingent, comprising young and talented athletes, departed Nigeria on Thursday for Ghana where they swiftly settled into their routine with an initial training session held on Friday.

The delegation is headed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Taiwo Oriss, with Abiodun Ojomo serving as the technical coach overseeing preparations.

The Nigerian squad features a mix of male and female athletes who were keen to showcase their abilities on the continental stage.

The team comprises Dorcas Abeng, Agnes John, Tofunmi Ibidapo, Maryam Omodunmola Muhammed and Funmilayo Demehin, all females.

Their male counterparts include Aidan Dumuje-Abili, Timilehin Olaiya, Goodluck Godwin and Endurance Olise.

Federation officials report that the athletes were in excellent spirits and highly motivated to represent their country with pride.

The early training session in Ghana aimed to help the swimmers acclimatise swiftly to the competitive environment.

The Africa Zone 2 Championship convenes elite swimmers from across the West and Central African regions, providing both a challenging competition and a developmental platform for emerging talents.

Nigeria is counting on the youthful zeal and determination of its swimmers to make a significant impact in Ghana, as the team seeks to build on previous performances and secure medals for the nation.
