The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday praised its Enugu State chapter for conducting what party officials called free, fair and exemplary House of Representatives primaries across the state.
Governor Peter Mbah joined party members in Owo Ward, Nkanu East LGA, to endorse Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, the sole aspirant for Nkanu East/Nkanu West federal constituency, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections.
Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, chairman of the APC House of Representatives primary elections in Enugu, said observers from his team monitored Owo Ward and other areas and received positive reports from the rest of the state.
“Enugu State APC has continued to stand out as a shining example in internal democracy, party cohesion, consensus-building, and commitment to the party’s success over and above individual interests,” he said.
Funkekeme commended Governor Mbah and state party leaders for the peace and cooperation that he said underpinned the exercise.
Speaking at Owo Ward, Governor Mbah thanked residents for the turnout and peaceful conduct, saying Enugu’s exercise illustrated grassroots democracy and rancour-free primaries.
He urged party faithful to campaign the APC’s achievements and policies ahead of the general elections, arguing that national reforms have eased macroeconomic pressures and enabled better service delivery at state and local levels.
“We have not finished yet. The foundations have been built. The fundamentals are in place. What Nigerians need to do is to support APC to come back and get the job finished,” Mbah said, urging members to mobilise voters door to door.
State party chairman Dr. Martin Chukwunweike and a monitoring team from Abuja were among officials who observed the exercise. The APC said final collations were ongoing.
