Progressives Youth Forum (PYF) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to intervene in Akwa Ibom State over prevailing hardship and hunger in the state.

The group, in an open letter to Akpabio,

urged him to call a meeting of stakeholders in the APC across the three senatorial districts of the state on ways to save Akwa Ibom from extending this condition to 2027.

They said the present administration in the state had inflicted much suffering on the people, especially with the recent demolition of shanties by the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) which they said had further deprived poor and vulnerable residents the means to make a living.

In the open letter signed by the international president, Comrade Inyang Aaron and secretary, Chief Sylvester Martins in Abuja, the group said; “We’ve been hit like a thunderbolt and wailing has become the order of the day. Never has it been like this in the history of modern day Akwa Ibom.”

They said the governor was making “audio policies,” and failing to deliver tangible benefits to the people, adding that his audio bulk food purchase scheme had not amounted to anything.

They expressed concern that the governor had become inaccessible and his administration was being run like a sole proprietorship.

The group in the letter begged Akpabio to come to their rescue as “a father, mindful of his children’s wellbeing.”

They added; “We’ve been beaten and battered, so much that we groan under the weight of these sufferings.  While we seek divine strength and resilience to wait for the end of this terrible administration, we cannot afford to fold our arms and see it go beyond 2027.

“We ask that you carefully expedite action on this information and treat as a SOS for a people and state you love. We pledge our readiness to fully support the outcome of the stakeholders’ meeting to this effect.

“We crave a new Akwa Ibom where policies are made in favour of the masses and we’re confident in your ability to make it come to pass. We wish you wisdom and divine insight as you take this into consideration, while praying for God’s protection and guidance upon you as you keep steering the affairs at the senate.”
