APM: Nigerians Reject Tinubu Over Hardship, Insecurity

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has claimed that Nigerians are rejecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over worsening hardship, insecurity, unemployment and economic challenges across the country.

The party alleged that the president was not commanding the support of credible Nigerians because of what it described as the poor performance of his administration since assuming office.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM said most of those campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 were discredited politicians seeking political protection or other personal interests.

The party alleged that the president’s supporters included politicians facing corruption allegations and others who, according to it, had lost credibility with Nigerians.

The statement came amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections and claims by supporters of the president that opposition parties would be unable to prevent his re-election.

The APM, however, dismissed such claims, saying they were inconsistent with what it described as the hardship being experienced by Nigerians under the Tinubu administration.

The party accused the Federal Government of failing to adequately address insecurity, including killings and kidnappings, while also criticising its economic policies, which it said had contributed to business closures, job losses, unemployment, rising living costs, hunger and a growing sense of hopelessness.

The APM also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the 2026 budget, referring to reports of the insertion of billions of naira in fictitious items and alleging that the proceeds were being diverted to private interests linked to APC leaders and their supporters.

The party further criticised the administration’s borrowing policies, claiming that Nigeria’s external debt had risen to $51.86 billion, which it described as a threat to the country’s economic future.

According to the APM, supporting Tinubu’s re-election would amount to endorsing what it described as reckless spending and the mortgaging of Nigeria’s future to foreign interests through excessive borrowing.

It said Nigerians deserved an administration capable of tackling insecurity, strengthening the economy, creating jobs, improving infrastructure and addressing the worsening cost of living.

The party also alleged that some prominent supporters of the president had foreign passports, homes and families abroad and therefore had less stake in the consequences of policies implemented in Nigeria.

The APM further claimed that the Tinubu administration was concerned about the growing popularity of the party and its presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, whom it described as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said it remained focused on mobilising Nigerians around its platform, with the objective of promoting economic prosperity, social stability and national cohesion.

The APM urged Nigerians to reject what it described as continued hardship and insecurity under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and support an alternative political platform in the 2027 elections.
