The Action Peoples Party (APP) has formally welcomed two members of the House of Representatives into its fold following their defection from their former political parties, in a move widely regarded as a boost to the party’s legislative presence at the national level.
The lawmakers, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo State, and Matthew Nwaogu, representing Aboh-Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency of Imo State, formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, respectively, to the APP on Tuesday.
Consequently, in a statement on Thursday, the National Chairman of the party, Uchenna Nnadi, announced the appointment of Hon. Ugochinyere as Leader of the APP House of Representatives Caucus, while Hon. Nwaogu was named Deputy Leader of the Caucus.
The appointments, according to the party, reflect its commitment to strengthening its influence in the National Assembly and enhancing internal legislative coordination.
Congratulating the lawmakers on their decision to join the party, Nnadi urged them to provide purposeful leadership within the caucus.
He further charged them to distinguish themselves through the promotion of people-oriented legislation, strong advocacy, and impactful constituency projects that align with the party’s vision and broader national development goals.
