The Court of Appeal on Monday has upheld the election of the member representing Uke/Karahi constituency, and a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Musa Saidu Gude.
While dismissing the appeal by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)’s candidate, Abdulrasheed Haruna, Justice J. E. Inayan said the case lacked merit.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia, had in its judgement earlier upheld the declaration of the SDP member by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), as winner of the seat during the last election in the state.
Not satisfied with the Tribunal judgement, Haruna proceeded to the Court of Appeal seeking the nullification of the election over alleged lack of proper inclusion of NNPP logo as well as non-compliance to the electoral act in the conduct by INEC during the poll.
In an interview with journalists in Lafia, Mr Gude, dedicated his victory to the people of his constituency.
The lawmaker called on his opponent to join hands with him in order to develop the constituency.
He assured the people of quality and effective representation at the State Assembly through bills and motions that have directed bearing on their lives.
