Arewa Group Celebrates IBB At 84, Hails Ex-Military President As Elder Statesman

The Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative has congratulated former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), on his 84th birthday anniversary, describing him as a father figure and an iconic leader whose wisdom continues to shape Nigeria’s journey.

In a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday, the Director General of the Initiative, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, lauded Babangida as “an elder statesman whose wealth of experience, foresight and guidance remain a source of inspiration to generations of Nigerians.”

He recalled the warm reception accorded to the Initiative’s leadership, led by its Chairman, Board of Trustees and former Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, during a courtesy visit to Babangida at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. According to him, the former President’s endorsement of the group’s mission to strengthen peace, unity, and development in Northern Nigeria has continued to motivate their efforts.

“General Babangida is not only a former Head of State but also a revered elder whose statesmanship and counsel remain invaluable to Nigeria’s democratic journey and the cohesion of our dear country. His commitment to the ideals of unity, justice, and progress is exemplary and worthy of emulation,” Dr. Idris said.

The group prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon Gen. Babangida, wishing him long life, good health, and enduring peace so that Nigeria, and the North in particular, can continue to benefit from his wisdom and fatherly guidance.
