Armed Forces Urged To Sustain Offensive Against Insurgents

The Middle Belt Conscience Guard (MBCG) has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to sustain ongoing coordinated offensives against insurgents, bandits and other criminal groups operating across different parts of the country.

The group also commended the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Olufemi Oluyede, for what it described as renewed operational leadership and improved coordination in the fight against insecurity.

In a statement signed by its President, Anthony Idoko, and Secretary-General, Amos Adamu, the organisation said recent military operations in parts of the North-Central and North-East regions have begun yielding positive results.

According to the group, intensified offensives, intelligence-driven missions and stronger collaboration among security agencies have contributed to gradual improvements in security across several communities in the Middle Belt.

“The recent momentum recorded by the armed forces shows that coordinated military pressure remains one of the most effective responses against insurgency, banditry and violent criminal activities threatening national stability,” the statement read.

The group praised frontline troops and military commanders for sustaining pressure on criminal elements despite difficult operational conditions.

It stressed that security efforts require national unity and institutional support, warning against attempts to politicise the fight against insecurity.

The MBCG further urged the armed forces not to relent in operations aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts, disrupting illegal arms supply routes and reclaiming communities affected by violent attacks.

According to the organisation, recent military offensives have restored confidence among residents in some rural communities previously deserted due to persistent attacks by armed groups.

The group also appealed to state governments, traditional institutions and local communities to strengthen cooperation with security agencies through intelligence sharing and community support initiatives.

“No security architecture can succeed without the trust and cooperation of local populations. Citizens must see themselves as active stakeholders in the national security process,” the group stated.

The organisation further called on the Federal Government to continue investing in military welfare, intelligence gathering, surveillance technology and operational logistics to sustain gains already recorded in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

The group added that although security challenges remain significant, sustained operational coordination and strategic leadership within the armed forces are beginning to produce measurable results in several conflict-prone areas across the country.
