Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with a deadly attack that claimed the life of a senior military officer in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Tijjani, was apprehended on Sunday at Ngamdu while reportedly on an errand to procure food supplies for members of his group.
Military sources linked the teenager to the attack that led to the killing of Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah, commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, alongside three other soldiers. The officer was killed on Thursday when suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an assault on a military base.
In a video circulating online, the suspect, who spoke in Hausa, admitted involvement in previous attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu. He disclosed that the group operated from Jilli, where they retreated after carrying out operations.
“Before the attack, we came from Jilli and returned there after the attack. I was sent from Jilli yesterday with N850,000 to collect some logistics from Ngamdu, but I was arrested by troops,” he said.
He added that he had left other fighters behind in Jilli but was unaware of their current situation.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest.
