Army Neutralises 11 Terrorists In Sokoto

Eleven suspected terrorists harassing communities in Gatawa in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state have been neutralised by soldiers of the operation Fansa Yanma after a heavy gun battle.

A team led by a Nigerian Army Major responded to a call for backup to support personnel posted to the area after terrorists attacked, claiming the lives of five members of the vigilante group, with one victim lying in a critical condition from gunshot Injury.

The backup team ran into the terrorists, who engaged in a fierce gun battle, and in the process, eleven terrorists were neutralised. At the same time, no casualty was recorded on the part of the military.

The source, though not authorised to speak on this matter, revealed to our correspondent that the terrorists suffered a heavy defeat.

Recall that a resident in Gatawa village of Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state had confirmed a bandit attack in their community, leading to the death of five persons on Saturday.

According to the source, six individuals, including two married women, two teenage girls, and two young boys, were abducted by attackers suspected to be armed bandits and one person was left critically injured from a gunshot attack.

Local sources later confirmed that security operatives gave the terrorists a hot chase and engaged them in a gun battle, but as at the time of filing this report, none of the abducted persons have been rescued.

A military source has confirmed that eleven of the terrorists were killed on Monday morning after a backup team engaged them and overpowered the terrorists.
